Target audience

This seminar is designed for CSOs and others engaged in international development and advocacy in the Eastern neighborhood countries.

Learning objectives

The seminar aims to provide participants with a deep understanding of the multifaceted challenges faced by CSOs in Ukraine and Georgia. Participants will explore how armed conflicts, political instability, and limited state support affect civil society and strategies to build resilience and foster collaboration.

Content

Focus is on the main challenges that civil society actors face, such as political pressure, legal restrictions, and risks to personal safety, especially in the context of war in Ukraine and democratic backsliding in Georgia. We will look at the strengths and opportunities of civil society, including grassroots mobilization, successful advocacy efforts, and support from international partners. We will also discuss how global actors can contribute to protecting and strengthening civil society in both countries. Finally, the seminar end with an open discussion on future directions and practical ways to support civil society development.

The following speakers and experts deliver key notes and participate in panel discussion:

  • Julia Samokhvalova, Project and Partnership Manager, Bevar Ukraine/East SOS/Dansk Helsinki-Komité, Ukraine
  • Ketevan Vashakidze, President Europe Foundation, Georgia
  • Olga Nikolska, Programme Director Isar Ednannia, Ukraine
  • Jan Ole Haagensen, Founding Member & Vice Chairperson Nunca Más, Denmark

The seminar will be moderated by Louise Brodthagen Jensen, foreign journalist to Ukraine and Georgia at DR News (Danish Broadcasting Corporation).

After the seminar, CISU will host a small treat, where there is an opportunity to network.
