CISU's advisory service is for member organisations to seek advice on various subjects related to civil society work.

CISU possesses extensive knowledge on effective civil society projects (both long-term and humanitarian), partnerships, organisational development, MEAL, fundraising, and the common challenges encountered in project work.

Advisory sessions can be requested in Aarhus, Copenhagen, or virtually. The date and time are agreed upon with the relevant advisor. To ensure a safe and confidential learning environment, AI assistants or any form of recording may not be used during advisory meetings.

Subjects for advice

Member organisations excel in their respective fields, and therefore, we regard the advisory service as a collaboration which offers mutual learning.

You are always welcome to approach us for advice, though our particular expertise lies within these areas:

The purpose of introductory sessions is to ensure that CISU is aligned with member organisations' expectations and desires for a CISU membership. In return, CISU can provide information about our different pools of funds and learning resources such as courses and webinars, and our advisory service.

Introduction sessions are designed for new CISU members but is also available to existing member organisations that haven't been in touch with CISU for a while or have experienced a significant turnover in personnel.

Board work, responsibilities, and strengthening the board
Collaboration and role distribution among board, management, secretariat, and volunteers
Recruitment, retention, and organisation of volunteers
Development of mission, vision, and strategy for an organization
Are you unsure whether to establish a new organization or merge with an existing one? Or do you need guidance on your association’s unique contribution?
If you decide to start a new association and want more information on statutes, board roles, responsibilities, etc., we recommend reading; Når I stifter en forening (in Danish) published by the Center for Voluntary Social Work.
We can facilitate one or more events for the board, employees, and/or volunteers tailored to the specific needs of your organisation.

CISU offers basic guidance on fundraising, including:

Introduction to funding from private foundations, corporate partnerships, collections, and other revenue sources
Creating a fundraising plan, including assessing whether you have the resources to reach your goals

Values and Principles for CISU’s Guidance

Guidance is also sparring. CISU’s advisors are highly qualified but do not know everything.
Answers are found together through dialogue.
CISU’s advisors possess a high level of expertise in development cooperation, partnerships, implementation, and project and organisational development, yet member organisations may be more skilled in the specific topics they work with. Therefore, we learn from each other.

The advisor is present and honest, taking responsibility for bringing potential issues to light
There is space to test ideas and explore possibilities
There is room to discuss weaknesses and shortcomings in a confidential space, and these discussions will not positively or negatively affect the grant process

We do not prioritize any member organizations over others
We tailor our guidance to the individual organization
We show respect for member organizations and their partners’ work
We acknowledge member organizations' work and commitment while also constructively challenging them
We work for a common cause, creating shared engagement
