Program grants targets organisations that, through long-term collaboration with partners in the Global South, have demonstrated results and the capacity to manage larger grants.

With a multi-year program grant, organisations have the opportunity for focused and long-term strategic collaboration with their partners. This also allows for greater flexibility in implementation.

Useful information about Program Grants

Applicants must adhere to the general requirements of the Civil Society Fund. Additionally, the following specific requirements apply to programs:

A minimum average of 3 million DKK annually granted from the Civil Society Fund or equivalent in the three most recent completed financial years prior to application.
Documented capacity to implement, monitor, and administer granted projects or equivalent.
Plan for fulfilling the requirement of own financing.

A program grant spans a four-year period and has a strategic focus that brings together various specific interventions under a common framework. A program can be geographically or thematically focused and will consist of three to four outcomes contributing to a shared objective.

Applications can be submitted for between 3 and 15 million DKK annually for four years. The amount depends on the organisation's total portfolio over the three preceding years prior to an application. This means that the size of a program grant equals the average of grants awarded over a three-year-period.

Program grant applications are processed in fixed rounds, occurring every other year. If you wish to apply for a program grant, you should contact an advisor to find out more.

The application process takes a year from start to finish and includes the following elements:

Capacity analysis of new program applicants and reviews of existing program organisations.
Concept note.
Full application.
Approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Any complaints about the handling of an application will initially be discussed by CISU's Head of Secretariat, the Chairperson of the Board, and the Chairperson of the Assessment Committee, who will consider the nature of the complaint and decide on its further course.

As a general rule, complaints cannot lead to changes in decisions made in the Grant Assessment System. However, if there are substantial and demonstrable formal errors in the processing of the application, it may be referred for reassessment. Assessments made in the Grant Assessment System cannot be altered.

All complaints will, in any case, be included and used constructively in the ongoing evaluation of professional practices within CISU, involving the Board, Assessment Consultants, Assessment Committee, and the Secretariat/Advisors.
