As of 23 February, 2018 Uganda is home to 251,730 refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who have fled inter- ethnic violence from the Ituri region. Over 45,000 have arrived in Uganda since 1 January 2018 (UNICEF, February 2018). According to UNICEF’s Humanitarian Appeal for Children is 76% unfunded and it is unable to respond to the increasing needs of children and women experiencing emergency situations in Uganda. Also, WFP foresees serious shortages in cereals and special nutritious foods beginning in April 2018 unless funding is released within the following weeks (8 March 2018 IRIN). The intervention is seeking funds to support the following activities in Kyaka 11 camp, in areas of food security, nutrition, energy and sanitation (including some DM-Aid funded activities). The risk of starvation in addition to cholera and malaria attacks increase the target group's vulnerabilities. The provision of emergency food relief will avert hunger and possible starvation and the provision of seeds for planting will stabilize the target group, enhancing their capacity for survival, reducing future vulnerabilities and promote resilience. Energy provision for immediate need is required to support food cooking, reducing conflict points with host communities.
