Målgrupper
The direct target group in the project covers 1.600 households. It consists of the 400 group members (SHFG) established in 10 villages and another 1.200 villagers targeted by the groups, through the ‘1-3 learning chain’, where each SHGF member reach out and share their knowledge to three neighbours. ‘Super Farmers’ selected from each SHFG (if possible) will be responsible for starting new groups (hence possibly doubling the amount of beneficiaries to the direct target group). The target group lives below the poverty line in villages with severe problems related to malnutrition and adverse or challenging farming conditions. Priority is given to villagers who are particularly vulnerable; the marginal farmers or sharecroppers who cultivate maximum 1 acre of land, who cultivate their land using traditional unscientific methods, who do not have access to credit and who have children in the household, in order to assure a larger impact. 50 percent of the target group is women within the reproductive age (18-45 years). Moreover, local leaders, governmental officers, local village level duty-bearers and institutions and ‘second-level’ duty-bearers are directly targeted and involved through participation in group sessions, activities and events and well as through their training in entitlements and responsibilities. All the villagers in the targeted 10 villages constitute the indirect target group. Awareness activities are held in the 10 villages, where knowledge and know-how are disseminated to other villagers, potentially reaching a total of around 300 households or 15.000 persons.
