Overordnede mål
This intervention is the first step in fostering a partnership with a southern partner, where the focus is to disclose the strategic vision of the partner and create a joint platform for future sector partnerships and promotion of the SDGs internationally.
Umiddelbare mål
The main objective of this intervention is sharing knowledge on working with the SDGs, and to investigate whether there can be established a fruitful partnership between the Northern partners mentioned above, and the Sierra Leone Institute of Engineers (SLIE) in Sierra Leone for sector cooperation on engineering for the Global Goals. The purpose of the seminar is to get a better understanding of current challenges to sustainable development in a Sierra Leonean context. By meeting the Southern partner and exchange experience and ideas over the cause of several days, the partners can develop a professional relationship, enabling a more thorough understanding of the technical and political capacity in SLIE and the need for capacity building.
Målgrupper
For the activities applied for in this intervention, the primary target group consists of both the SLIE as an organisation and rural communities in the Freetown area. The primary will benefit from this intervention by assessing and becoming aware of its current capacity to advocate for engineering matters in society, and will be able to learn and gain knowledge from similar associations and their experience within these areas. The on-site visits and the intended pilot initiative will benefit a selected rural community in the Freetown area.
Resume
The fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals requires close and long-term cooperation between developed countries and developing countries. The Global Goals cannot be met only with aid and investments from rich countries, it requires a technical humanitarian assistance, where trained professionals travel to underdeveloped areas and assist with professional knowledge. This application outlines both the long-term aims of a collaboration between engineering organisations in the global North and global South, and it outlines the purpose and objectives of the near-term small-scale intervention, to which we are applying for funds.
