The project seeks to strengthen livelihoods and food security among residents of informal settlements in Kampala by equipping ACTogether Uganda (ACT) with the capacity needed to establish and scale Hydroponic urban farming (HUF) as a sustainable income source. The project responds to gaps identified in the ongoing hydroponic pilot project, 'Piloting Intensive Urban Farming in Slums,' in Kinawataka, where limited follow-up and support for farmers have constrained the adoption of hydroponic farming. Through targeted technical capacity strengthening, ACT will be equipped to teach slum dwellers how to establish, manage, and sustain hydroponic gardens, creating income opportunities and improving local access to nutritious food. The project will be implemented in partnership with slum-based farming groups, the National Slum Dwellers Federation of Uganda (NSDFU), and Architects Without Borders (AWB), ensuring increased capacity and community impact.
