Resume

The programme will improve the oral health, well-being, and learning potential of more than 9,000 Guatemalan school children by introducing daily toothbrushing, oral health education, and access to urgent treatment in schools. Building on proven results in Baja Verapaz, the model will expand to five new departments in collaboration with the Ministries of Education and Health. Parents, teachers, and principals will be mobilised to sustain good habits at home and school, while children’s reduced toothache and absenteeism will strengthen their opportunities for education. The local partner PRODESSA will be capacitated as a national ‘watchdog’ for children’s right to oral health, supported by Dental Health Without Borders. Together with communities, universities, and authorities, the programme aims to institutionalise school-based oral healthcare and promote sustainable, culturally adapted solutions for marginalised and indigenous children.
