Somaliland's eastern region Sool is experiencing water and pasture shortages due to a severe drought. More than 6.229 hh living in 21 villages in Ainabo district in Sool region are struggling with access to water and basic food. These villages are experiencing severe drought conditions, as confirmed by the regional coordinator of the Ministry of Water Resources in the Ainabo district. Water and forage are the most important resources for pastoralism, and changes in their availability greatly influence pastoralists' livelihood security. Water scarcity, food, and nutrition is the most pressing need that the people are currently facing. Bali Caraale and Kala Baydh villages are selected because they are badly affected by the water scarcity and because the nearest water source is 90-120 km away. The proposed intervention will deliver the provision of water to 450 through water trucking for three months while the most vulnerable 100 hh will receive food voucher assistance for two months.
