Humanitarian needs in Bay region, in Somalia have reached critical levels, driven by the combined impact of recurrent droughts, floods, Al-Shabaab activity, inter-clan conflicts, and exceptionally high food prices. These challenges are worsened by ongoing violence and insecurity. The prolonged crises, along with reduced livelihood opportunities, have significantly weakened access to food. The proposed intervention of providing multipurpose cash assistance (MPCA) to conflict-affected populations is both highly effective and timely for several reasons. It empowers beneficiaries to prioritize their most urgent needs, whether that’s purchasing food, medication, or other essential items. By targeting vulnerable groups—such as the elderly, children, and individuals with specific needs—MPCA ensures that the most at-risk members of the community receive vital aid, maximizing the impact of the intervention.
