The intervention targets 815 vulnerable Afghans (approx. 136 families) affected by the series of earthquakes in the Nurgal district of the Kunar province. Our cash-based rapid response intervention provides an appropriate and relevant solution, as it allows us to deliver financial support to affected families within a few days. It is effective and timely as the families can access the food, medicine and livelihoods they most need. The cash-based approach is also more cost-effective and logistically efficient than distributing the actual relief materials. Moreover, financial assistance helps preserve beneficiaries’ sense of autonomy and self-respect, as they manage their own resources rather than relying on external judgment.
