Resume
Traditionally accustomed to sudden influx of population fleeing from conflicts from neighbouring countries, the high influx of Syrian refugees has pushed Jordan’s absorptive capacity to its limits. The existing physical and social infrastructures are overstretched negatively impacting the country’s ability to continue providing assistance to Syrian refugees whilst maintaining adequate service levels for Jordanian citizens. Gradually shifting weather patterns, more extreme temperature conditions and more intense droughts are affecting poor people in Jordan’s rural areas whom are depending on agriculture and rural livelihood for their income and food security. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to improved livelihood opportunities for Syrian refugees and low-income Jordanians in the area of Irbid Governorate, Jordan. Through the adoption of participatory methods and capacity building activities, the project points to foster the engagement of community members in the area of Irbid by mobilising them to adopt environment-friendly activities in agriculture and construction and improving their access to knowledge and resources to mitigate climate change effects.
