Resume

The Community led Waste and Environmental Health Improvement Project seeks to improve sanitation and environmental health in Kahawa Soweto informal settlement, Nairobi, where poor waste disposal continues to pose serious health and environmental challenges. The project will begin in one section of the settlement before expanding to other areas as community ownership and local capacity grow. Through community awareness, regular clean-up activities, the establishment of central waste collection points, and training the youth in waste collection, sorting, and recycling, the project will directly engage more than 500 households and contribute to healthier living conditions for over 2,500 residents. Working closely with residents, youth groups, community leaders, and local authorities, the project will strengthen community ownership, create opportunities for youth participation, and establish practical waste management solutions that can be sustained and replicated across Kahawa Soweto.
