FemGroup was initially established as a grassroots initiative within the Coordination Council, a body announced by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya immediately after the August 2020 elections, with the aim of facilitating a peaceful transition to power. Over the past four years, FemGroup has emerged as a leading force in the Belarusian feminist movement. As a horizontal coalition of Belarusian feminist activists and experts, the group has consistently advocated for gender equality within democratic forces and civil society. Members of FemGroup actively participated in both the first and second convocations of the Coordination Council. Through its efforts, the group has fostered communication within the Belarusian feminist community, supported the development of the feminist movement, and promoted intra- and cross-sectorial cooperation. Since 2021, the Belarusian government has dissolved many civil society organizations (CSOs), with feminist organizations among those most affected. Currently, there are virtually no operational CSOs within Belarus. Against this backdrop, FemGroup has become a critical platform for advancing the feminist agenda and gender equality across various levels. It serves as a unified voice for women's rights and equality, actively working to integrate these values into the broader movement for democratic change in Belarus.
