Public Accountability Through Advocacy (PATA) is a youth organisation established in 2015 and formally registered in 2021. It was founded in response to challenges faced by communities in Ghana’s Northern Region, particularly Kumbungu District, in accessing information and engaging with public officials and institutions. Mission: To work with communities to hold duty bearers accountable and influence development. Vision: An informed and developed community. Core values: Accountability, fairness, transparency, non-partisanship and non-religious neutrality, volunteerism, and justice. Kumbungu District, established in 2012, comprises 117 communities. Many face development challenges linked to limited access to information, participation, and dialogue with duty bearers, including Assembly Members, heads of public institutions, and elected and appointed officials. PATA seeks to bridge this information and accountability gap by creating spaces for direct dialogue between communities and duty bearers. Its main approaches include community durbars, symposia, community rallies, and radio programmes. These platforms engage key institutions and decision-makers, including the District Assembly, Education, Agriculture and Health Directorates, Members of Parliament, security services, legal services, and other relevant public institutions. Through collaboration with local and external partners, PATA works to strengthen community participation, access to information, transparency, and accountability in local development. Its approach is non-partisan, non-religious, and rooted in volunteerism and community engagement. Office: Dalun Youth House, Kumbungu District, Ghana.
