Dreamtown

Dreamtown Kenya is a newly established Kenyan non-governmental organisation. Its establishment was initiated and supported by Dreamtown Denmark as part of a process to build a strong, locally anchored organisation in Kenya with its own governance and management. Dreamtown Kenya was established in response to a need to strengthen support to urban civil society organisations and groups, both formal and informal. By locating capacities and decision-making closer to the organisations and communities we work with, Dreamtown Kenya aims to provide more relevant and accessible organisational and capacity development support, strengthen local partnerships, and support local organisations in accessing funding and developing fundraising opportunities. As a newly established organisation, Dreamtown Kenya is currently in its start-up phase and has therefore not yet implemented activities at scale. Its overall purpose, as defined in its Constitution, is to promote the welfare of vulnerable young people, with a particular focus on creating opportunities for young people in urban communities. Its planned activities centre on supporting young people and local civil society actors to create safe and inclusive spaces, creative spaces for learning, innovation and artistic expression, and green spaces that strengthen climate resilience, livelihoods, health and wellbeing. Dreamtown Kenya will work through partnerships with local civil society and youth-led groups, combining capacity development, resource mobilisation and fundraising support with the development and implementation of locally rooted initiatives.
