Chilean Association of Journalists and Professionals for Science Communication (ACHIPEC)

The Chilean Association of Science Journalists (ACHIPEC) was founded in 1976 under the auspices of the Chilean Journalists' Association. From the outset, ACHIPEC has relied on the National Commission for Science and Technology (CONICYT) and its development programs as sources of information. In this same vein, the association established connections with universities, scientific societies, and technology centers, creating a reference database of specialists and their fields of expertise to enhance journalistic work.Over the years, numerous seminars and workshops have been organized across the country, fostering interaction between researchers and journalists to analyze issues in various fields and discuss the social implications of scientific and technological development. The aim, therefore, is to provide a reliable foundation and a realistic outlook for the concept of the "social appropriation of science" within a democratic system.
