Akili Dada

Akili Dada is a Kenyan women- and girl-focused leadership incubator and feminist organization. It works to advance gender equality, social justice, and women’s leadership by equipping young women and girls from underserved communities with the skills, networks, and resources to thrive as transformational leaders. Its scope of work includes: -Leadership development: building transformational feminist leadership in adolescent girls and young women. -Education & mentorship: supporting secondary and tertiary education, peer mentoring, and alumnae networks. -Economic empowerment: training young women in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and livelihoods. -Civic engagement & advocacy: strengthening girls’ and women’s voices in decision-making spaces. Areas of activity are primarily in Kenya, with partnerships and programs extending into East and sub-Saharan Africa (e.g., Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Nigeria). In terms of scale: -The organization has a core paid staff team of about 15–20, complemented by consultants and fellows. -It engages dozens of unpaid mentors and alumnae volunteers. -Its programs have directly supported hundreds of young women leaders and reached thousands of adolescent girls and community members through education, advocacy, and empowerment initiatives.
