Sustainability Watch was established during the 2002 Johannesburg Summit, bringing togheter civil society organizations (CSOs) from both the Global South and North. In 2004, the East Africa SusWatch Network was launched and hosted in Kampala, Uganda. SUSWATCH Kenya was officially registred in 2011 and has since gained observer status with the UNFCCC, UNCCD, and UNEP. The organizations envisions "a nation where citizens are mobilized on sustainable development, climate change issues, and livelihood interventions for improved quality of live." Its mission is "to lobby and influence the government, as well as national, regional, and global decision-making bodies, to fulfil commitments on sustainable development". SUSWATCH play a key role in national policy processes and sits on various committees responsible for policy formulation. Through these platforms, it has actively contributed to the development of Kenya's National Climate Change Act, the National Climate Change Policy, the National Climate Change Actions Plans, the revisions of the Nationally Determined Contributions, and the formulation of county-level climate change policies and legislative frameworks.
