Labs for Development is a youth-led Sudanese civic and media organisation promoting peace, coexistence, justice, democracy and civic engagement. Established and registered in Sudan in March 2020, it registered in Kenya in December 2023. Its offices in Nairobi and Cairo serve as co-working hubs for Sudanese civic and media actors, hosting training, events and knowledge exchange. A core objective is to strengthen the capacity of civil society, media actors and young people to counter hate speech, disinformation and polarising conflict narratives. Labs combines digital media production, research and data-driven, collaborative content creation with media literacy and digital skills training. Through forums, panels and workshops, it supports democratic dialogue and peaceful coexistence, giving particular attention to perspectives often overlooked in reporting on Sudan, including those of young people and women. Labs operates two media platforms. Televzyon, founded in 2022, produces youth-focused content and has approximately 100,000 social media followers, with over three million views recorded within six months. From Source, launched in 2024, connects the public directly with newsmakers, decision-makers and experts to verify information. Its editorial programme Fifteen has explored the war’s consequences through stories of displacement, civic engagement and cultural resilience. Labs is funded through project grants from international partners, including Internews, Pact, the British Council, DT Global, the Heinrich Böll Foundation, the Life and Peace Institute and DT Institute. Between January 2024 and November 2025, it managed eight projects with a combined budget of approximately USD 483,500.
