JWU is a voluntary, grassroots organization, founded in 1945. Its work has gone through various phases, with programs evolving to serve each stage. Its plans and strategies are approved by its General Assembly, which discusses and adopts them in light of the economic, political, and social contexts surrounding the region. It has over 10,000 active members from its different branches across the governorates of Jordan. JWU's mission is to build a democratic feminist discourse that is based on women's rights and issues and contributes to strengthening a democratic feminist movement that supports women's struggles. It's vision is for a democratic, unified, pluralistic, society, governed by civil laws and full equality without discrimination, in which women can obtain full equality and full citizenship. JWU targets women, regardless of their nationality, age, religion or area of residence. Objectives: ▪ Eliminate all types of discrimination against Jordanian women ▪ Emphasize the role of Jordanian women in society and empower them to practice their rights on the basis of equality, justice, and respect ▪ Raise Jordanian women’s awareness of their role in society and strengthen their participation in all fields of society ▪ Enhance and encourage Jordanian women’s participation in public life ▪ Eliminate legal, cultural, and political illiteracy among Jordanian women ▪ Eliminate all legal, economic, social, and cultural barriers against women, in accordance with the human rights conventions signed by the Jordanian government ▪ Promote human rights, in general, and women’s and children’s rights, in particular ▪ Network and cooperate with other Arab women’s organizations, with a specific focus on the rights of Palestinian and Arab women ▪ Establish and maintain solidarity with international women’s rights movements Areas of work: Women's rights;GBV protection; Women's empowerment; Awareness-raising; Psychosocial and legal services; Women's Shelter; Advocacy.
