Born in 1963, NRCS is today recognized as the largest humanitarian organization in Nepal. The main purpose of the organisation is to prevent and alleviate humanitarian sufferings without any discrimination on the basis of religion, race, sex, caste, language, nationality or and political belief. NRCS today has a nationwide network through 7 province chapters, 77 district chapters, more than 1600 sub chapter and more then 6000 Junior and youth circles in the educational institutions and community. The main activities of the organisation are as follows: To serve both military and civilian victims in times of armed conflict and areas specified by the Geneva Conventions in peacetime. To promote and improve health, prevent disease and alleviate suffering. To provide emergency relief services and restoring family link services for those affected by calamities and crises. To carry out disaster, preparedness, mitigation response and recovery activities. To raise public awareness, mitigate effects of climate change and migration, provide early warning and forecast based anticipatory services to disasters. To organize, build capacity, and promote participation of Junior and Youth Red Cross as an integral part of Nepal Red Cross Society and conduct child/youth targeted activities. To protect the human dignity of vulnerable communities and persons with disabilities. To promote the fundamental principles of the Red Cross movement and international humanitarian law, promote respect for humanitarian values and ensure the protection of the Red Cross. To perform other functions related to community development and public welfare.
