Public Association "Resource Center for Elderly" (RCE)

Mission of the organization: To promote the formation of an enabling environment that protects and promotes the interests of elderly people, the quality of life, institutional development, the promotion of civic initiatives and fair public policy towards the older generation of Kyrgyz Republic. For 33 years the PA “Resource Center for the Elderly” (RCE) has been working in the field of social support and protection of the older population of Kyrgyzstan, using a comprehensive approach to solving the problems of the elderly population of the country and carrying out activities in the following areas: social, economic, legal, informational, network and environmental. The organization's activities cover all regions of the Kyrgyz Republic. RCE pilots and uses in its work own various innovative models of civil society development and its interaction with authorities. The crucial feature of the organization's activities is not to help older people for one day, but continuous support. Through the developed and proposed model of Self-help groups (SHGs), the older people unite, organize income-generating activities, and take part in trainings to increase legal literacy, study various kinds of applied art, computer skills and much more. In addition, the RCE was the initiator of the creation of the Big Public Council (BPC) and Local Public Councils (LPC) at the local level. The BPC permanently unites about 40 representatives of NGOs, the Government, international and independent experts who discuss issues of socially vulnerable groups of the population. Issues of climate change and adaptation to climate change are one of the areas of activity of the RCP. From 2008 to the present, the organization has implemented a series of projects aimed at adapting older people to climate change.
