Peasants' rights achieve climate justice Adapting the power, transforming the region - regional coalition towards inclusive climate change adaptation |
The Zimbabwe Smallholder Organic Farmers Forum (ZIMSOFF) is a lobby and advocacy movement made up of smallholder farmers particularly women across Zimbabwe who are practicing agroecology and seed & food sovereignty as a climate change resilience strategy. ZIMSOFF want to voice on these issues as modern sustainable and just way forward for farming in Zimbabwe to address basic human rights such as access to adequate and nutritional food and access to clean water, air and environment. ZIMSOFF is backing up its advocacy work by strong evidence from the ground with good internal information flow and a well thought-out communication strategy working with a number of stakeholders and allies at different levels from the grassroots. ZIMSOFF is a growing movement for agroecology, food sovereignty and climate justice practitioners who have inherited their past knowledge on food systems and ecological sustainability, who are developing from ground up. The growing movement aim to develop evidence through farmer led innovative research and action oriented knowledge sharing and dialogues of members on the critical policy issues towards strengthening sustainable local knowledge and ecological practices. In that view ZIMSOFF is connecting practicing smallholder farmers that are showcasing a number of agroecology practices such as local seed saving, food sovereignty, water harvesting, soil fertility management, agroforestry, diverse livestock integration, aquaculture, verma-culture and apiculture to actively participate in building local food systems in an ecologically sustainable way within the territories and also mobilizing masses to increase the voice on favoured policy advocacy issues. ZIMSOFF has strengthened its direct political and social development of organized smallholder farmers’ organizations that are promoting the development of living examples of agroecology and food sovereignty to increase local mobilization and collaboration.
