National Indigenous Disabled Self-Employment Women Association Nepal (NID SEWA Nepal) was founded in 2023 by women with disabilities to advance the rights, inclusion, and leadership of women and youth with disabilities, particularly those from Indigenous and marginalized communities. The organization was established to address the intersecting barriers faced by persons with disabilities in accessing education, healthcare, employment, livelihoods, leadership, and meaningful participation in society. NID SEWA Nepal was legally registered in 2024 with Nepal’s District Administration Office (DAO) and Social Welfare Council (SWC) as an independent, non-profit civil society organization. It promotes disability rights, gender equality, economic empowerment, and social inclusion through a rights-based approach, ensuring women and youth with disabilities are active decision-makers and leaders in their communities. Its mission is to empower women and youth with disabilities by promoting their dignity, independence, equal rights, and participation in all aspects of society. NID SEWA Nepal’s work is guided by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), CEDAW, and other national and international human rights frameworks. The organization’s core activities include advocacy for disability-inclusive laws and policies; entrepreneurship, vocational training, and livelihood support; education, digital and financial literacy; gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence; accessible health services and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR); leadership development; humanitarian and emergency support, including disability-inclusive disaster preparedness, emergency response, relief distribution, and recovery; climate resilience and disaster risk reduction; community awareness to reduce stigma and discrimination; and collaboration with government, civil society, and development partners to promote disability-inclusive development.
