Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation

Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation is an independent feminist organisation in Turkey, active since 1990 in combating all forms of violence against women. It was founded by feminists after the influential 1987 “Women’s Solidarity Against Beatings” campaign, which united hundreds of women and became a cornerstone of the feminist movement in Turkey. The campaign highlighted the urgent need for legal aid, practical support, and solidarity spaces based on feminist principles. Since its founding, Mor Çatı has supported more than 45.000 women and children through their Solidarity Center and Shelter. Beyond direct support, Mor Çatı also engages in advocacy and policy work. Insights from women’s experiences inform the organisation’s advocacy efforts, and this evidence-based approach enables Mor Çatı to identify legislative gaps, advocate for change, and push for better public policies in Turkey and beyond.
