History GRAWES was established by a group of experienced professionals who have worked together for many years in community development, governance and rights-based programming. Drawing on long-standing collaboration and field experience, the organisation was created to provide a locally grounded yet professionally managed platform for inclusive and sustainable development initiatives. Purpose The purpose of GRAWES is to strengthen the resilience, agency and rights of marginalized and indigenous communities, with a particular focus on women. The organisation seeks to address structural inequalities by combining livelihood support with governance, accountability and advocacy, enabling communities to engage constructively with local institutions and duty-bearers. Primary activities GRAWES’ primary activities include community mobilisation and organisation, climate-adaptive livelihood support, rights and advocacy training, and facilitation of dialogue between communities and local government. The organisation also works on strengthening local governance, accountability mechanisms and community leadership, ensuring that development processes are inclusive, participatory and responsive to local priorities.
