VIGALEX arose as a common wish for three sisters, raised in Kinshasa. Because of their own childhood experiences, it was painful for them to experience the many street children in Kinshasa. Today, Gina lives in Denmark, Nadine in Mbuji-Mayi and Betty in Kinshasa. They decided to make an active effort for street children by providing food, cloth and care for children on the streets, as well as building and running an orphanage with a school, educational workshops and agriculture. In February 2023 the two NGOs, VIGALEX in DR Congo and Congos Børn in Denmark was established, with a common purpose and a very close collaboration. Today, the 50 members of VIGALEX comes from Université de Kinshasa, together with neighbors and acquaintances. From April 2023 to December 2023, VIGALEX volunteers offered street children food, some clothes and care every Saturday in a district in Kinshasa. Also, VIGALEX acquired two hectares of land on the outskirts of Kinshasa. In January 2024, 6 street children moved into Maison VIGALEX, which exists in a rented house in the district of Mitendi. There are three employees. The volunteers from VIGALEX initiates different activities for the children, such as daily school training, music lessons, painting and drawings, football training, chicken cops and vegetable garden. In April 2024, Maison VIGALEX was officially inaugurated with participation of the local mayor, social authorities, as well as neighbors and representatives of the local churches. January 2025 VIGALEX initiated a local football club, FX VIGALEX. Today FC VIGALEX has twenty-two members, coming from the boys' friends in school, church and another local orphanage. The largest financial support comes from Congos Børn, but VIGALEX also collects money and in-kind from their network. VIGALEX is still active in the streets, and they are in the process of getting more children, including girls, into Maison VIGALEX in collaboration with the local social authorities.
