Overall targets
The empowered Dayak Ngaju in Rungan are exerting their rights to manage their forest and have gained improved livelihoods based on sustainable use of natural resources.
Immediate targets
1) By the 1st of September 2019, men and women in each of the target communities are organized in community teams around sustainabke subsistence and income-generating activities, and have gained increased capacity for improved livelihoods. 2) By the 1st of January 2020, the target communities have gained capacity to effectively advocate their rights to manage their forest areas, and are using this capacity to voice their rights to duty-bearers and other relevant stakeholders.
Target groups
The four villages of Mungku Baru, Bukitsua, Petuk Barunai and Panjehang in Rakumpit subdistrict (Kecamatan), Palang Karaya municipality (Kotamadya), will make up the primary target group. The villages consist of a total of 415 households with 1791 individuals (853 women/938 men).

Med ændringer i lovgivningen har Indonesien formelt set åbnet op for, at den marginaliserede befolkningsgruppe af oprindelige folk, kan få anerkendt deres rettigheder til de skov- og landområder, som de I generationer har forvaltet, men som juridisk har tilhørt staten. Det kræver dog omfattende ressourcer og kapacitet, som de ofte er foruden. I Rungan har de oprindelige Dayak Ngaju folk allerede mistet dele af deres skov til plantageselskaber, altimens regeringen har planer om yderligere koncessioner. Det ansøgte projekt søger gennem øget kapacitet og organisering, at styrke dem i at opnå rettigheder til deres skov og forbedre deres levebrød, som er under pres grundet de allerede begrænsede naturressourcer. Projektet retter sig primært mod fire landsbyer, men indgår i en overordnet strategi for bevarelse af 20 landsbyers skovområde i Rungan.
