The proposed humanitarian intervention in Pakistan aims at supporting vulnerable workers in the informal economy. DTDA’s partner, Pakistan Workers’ Federation (PWF) will procure and distribute food relief packages to reduce hunger, ensure a dignified survival and save livelihoods during the lock-down in Pakistan, while informing this group (whereof many are illiterate) how to stay healthy and reduce the risk of contagion at home and at work. Additionally, formal workers who are still attending work, will be informed on how to stay healthy and reduce the risk of contagion at the workplace, based on ILO guidelines. PWF’s affiliated unions in the informal economy will identify the most vulnerable workers, who are experiencing food shortages and hunger, and see their livelihoods and few assets vanish. This group will receive humanitarian emergency food packages to cover the immediate needs for their families. The proposed intervention is linked to DTDA’s current cooperation with PWF aiming at improving social protection for informal economy workers.
