Resume

Since October 2023, floods have affected over 1.24 million people, with over 456,800 people displaced from their homes; at least 32 people have died, according to the Somali authorities. The people in flood prone riverine areas faced a risk of displacement. Approximately 1.5 million hectares of land could be inundated mostly in South West, Hirshabelle, Jubaland and Galmudug states since early October. The rains have also damaged road infrastructure and interrupted the supply of commercial food and non-food items, resulting in shortages of the commodities and increased prices in Afgooye, Wanla Weyn and Qoryooley districts.. This intervention is planning to respond to this emergency by delivering Cash Based Assistance (CBA), and distributing NFIs Blankets and plastic sheet tarpaulins which served as emergency shelter for 438 HHS living in a newly IDP camp on the outskirts of Afgoye who were affected and displaced by heavy rains and floods in Afgoye.
