Resume

The Arara people in the Amazon have only been in contact with the outside world since 1987. With less than 500 community members, they face an existential threat from deforestation and from human rights violations.Through this intervention, AI Denmark together with AI Brazil, Instituto Maira and the Indigenous Association of the Arara People of Cachoeira Seca, and notably the Arara community, will seek to establish relations between the realities of the Araras, individual and collective identities and human rights. The main focus will be to support development of the capacity of the Araras to defend their own rights and to protect their territories, establishing and restoring intergenerational exchanges, and connecting to their identity and culture. The processes will be developed using participatory HRE methodologies, inspired by Paulo Freire’s work, addressing gender balance, intergenerational relations and traditional perspectives on adequate standards of life as cross-cutting issues.
