The intervention directly supports the Neighbourhood Fund’s objectives of promoting democratic development, resilience, and empowered civil society in Ukraine. By adapting the Shared Reading concept to local Ukrainian contexts and needs it addresses acute social challenges – healing war-related trauma, bridging perceived divides – and builds long-term capacities of communities to engage in democratic processes. The partnership between Zmistom and Læseforeningen guarantees mutual learning and sustainability, and it ensures that the seed are sown for Shared Reading to become a part of the Ukrainian civic toolbox from now on and many years to come. Due to the capacity building nature of the project the target groups are Zmistom staff and volunteers who will be trained in the method of Shared Reding to the direct benefit of at least 100 citizens of Odesa who is hence also to become a primary target group.
