The goal of this intervention is to develop the leadership of Ghanaian youth, capacitating them with the skills to make lasting social change within their communities, with a focus on the rights and protection of girls, young women, and children with intellectual disabilities. The project will also focus on advocacy for free, safe and inclusive spaces for children and youth from underserved communities. Our approach involves capacitating young volunteer coaches (Playmakers) to foster life skills and personal growth among children and youth through street sports. The project prioritizes the inclusion of girls and children with intellectual disabilities, ensuring their meaningful participation in sports initiatives established in underserved neighborhoods. Finally, the Place Based Leadership Development will develop the targeted youth’s leadership and advocacy skills towards influencing local government and other important local stakeholders on the right to safe urban spaces.
