When the cyclone Freddy hit Malawi and neighboring countries in March with additional heavy rain before and after, it caused flooding, mudslides, heavy winds by which destruction of lives, as well as households, livestock, crops have been washed away or partly destroyed. Some are still staying in their damaged/partly collapsed houses or what is left of them. Many still staying at home in small communities are overlooked by the government statistics and as such they do not receive any help from the government either. Together with local authorities our local partner has identified the current and most urgent needs among the affected population in the area of Zomba, Southern Malawi. Together we (the CSO and our local partner) have made a plan for meeting the immediate needs of a specific target group in the village Kataya near Zomba in a fast and timely way buying and distributing food and making emergency shelters.
