Resume
The Urban Space Race is a new approach to engage youth living in Kissy community in Freetown through a competitive space making project. The overall objective is to improve the wellbeing of young people dwelling in urban slums by increasing their access to creative and safe public spaces and space to participate in community development as active residents. The project is framed as a competition, in which the participating young people come up with ideas to and develop public spaces in their community and strengthen their capacity to manage projects, communicate to duty bearers, and advocate on behalf of their fellow community youth. The project is a collaboration between the Danish organisation Dreamtown and the Sierra Leonean organisation YMCA, with technical assistance and outreach support from the Australian organisation Urban Synergies Group.
