Overall targets

The main objective therefore is to promote community access to information through reading materials and thereby build a culture of reading among rural people of Northern Ghana. Specific objectives are: 1. To establish relationships and agreements with the District Directorate of Education and the schools under the Dalun Circuit regarding the use of the Dalun Community Library 2. To strengthen the organisational capacity of both Ghana Bilioteksvenner (GBV) and Read to Change Initiative (R2CI) advocating for access to reading materials and quality education in Northern Ghana

Immediate targets

Establishing of 5 Community Reading Clubs Library School partnership with 4 schools in Dalun Circuit 10 Danish and 20 local volunteers takes part in the Summer camp as instructors Strengthen Dallung Library by staff training in project and financial management, Library management and skills

Target groups

1. Schools, teachers, parent and children. in Dalun Circuit. 2. Stakeholders in Kumbungu District.

Resume

The Reading Community Project is a project between Read to Change Initiative in North Ghana and The Ghana Library Friends in Denmark. The project will strengthen Dalun Community Library by establishing relationships with the schools under the Dalun Circuit and in that way increase access to reading and materials and build a culture of reading among community members. The activities will be: 1. Strengthening the Dalun Community Library 2. School Partnership Model Workshop 3. Establishment of Community Reading Clubs 4. Cultural Expression and Summer Camp 5. Organisation Development It takes its starting point in the Dalun Community Library and to use that, as the basis to design a development model for other communities of Northern Ghana. The project will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on quality education. This is a 1 year project, from March 2020 – February 2021.
