Overall targets

The main objective of the proposed interventions is to advocate for viable solutions to challenges related to workers’ rights violation and poor working conditions.

Immediate targets

1. Improving working terms and conditions of employment through social dialogue and sustainable cooperation among social partners in Kenya and Tanzania and 2. Ensure that the local labour legislation increasingly promote decent work even in the account of emerging employment trends such as casualization, outsourcing, labour agencies involvement.

Target groups

The primary target groups are the workers in labour intensive sectors in Kenya and Tanzania. The first ones comprise workers organised by the trade union partners in the current project and they include workers in factories, industries, plantations and agriculture, warehouses, freights, construction, energy & gas and hospitality. The second primary target group comprises all other workers represented by trade unions affiliated to the umbrella bodies in Kenya and Tanzania respectively.

Resume

The main objective of the proposed interventions is to advocate for viable solutions to challenges related to workers’ rights violation and poor working conditions. This is mostly necessitated by lack of adequate labour standards accountability in Kenya and Tanzania as well as deficits related to emerging employment trends in value-chains and globalisation. More specifically the proposed interventions are aimed at: 1. This project envisions that workplace challenges are not only left to workers and trade union interventions, but rather as workplace issues that affect the interest of all, and which require concerted efforts to solve. This way, the synergy promises more lasting solution for workers.
