Resume

The food and agriculture sectors are important in Indonesia, but they are also considered National Security matters and sensitive topics for CSOs to engage in. Besides, the majority of Indonesian farmers are over 45 years old and have not advanced beyond primary school. Therefore, for farmers to attune to changed circumstances and safeguarding their source of income, organisation is a must. This include collaboration with and support from CSOs who advocate farmers’ rights and livelihoods given the often challenging social, economic, environmental and political conditions. KRKP was established in 2003 to do exactly this, but is presently caught in the dilemma where one needs funding to develop capacity and perform professionally, but organisation and professionalism are required to secure funding. The proposed intervention will strenghten KRKP’s capacity to maintain a network of civic organisations in promoting community-based solutions to food security and sustainable agriculture.
