Green Armenia is a grassroots environmental organization in Armenia dedicated to environmental education, legal advocacy, and community empowerment. Founded in 2019 by environmental defenders and journalists, it works to protect ecosystems, strengthen environmental governance, and defend civic space against legal intimidation and corporate impunity. The organization advocates for environmental rights as fundamental human rights and advances environmental justice by ensuring that communities can safely and effectively defend their land, water, and health from industrial exploitation and pollution. Green Armenia collaborates with communities in regions most affected by mining pollution, industrial expansion, and weak environmental enforcement. It has conducted research on operational tailing dams, monitored international financial institutions in Armenia’s mining sector, and proposed amendments to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) law to improve transparency and public participation. Green Armenia is part of a regional and international environmental justice network, collaborating with organizations such as Global Greengrants Fund, the American Bar Association, Urgent Action Fund, Nesehnuti (Czech Republic), UNDP, and the Coalition for Human Rights in Development.
