UCSD is an NGO Network dedicated to coordinate advocacy and lobby work around issues and commitments made by world leaders towards sustainable development. The Vision of the Coalition is humanity sharing the resources of our planet in a sustainable manner guided by the principles of universal justice as set in Rio at the Earth Summit (1992) and subsequent summits such as the Johannesburg Summit on sustainable development (2002). The Goal of UCSD is “An effective network providing credible views, support and advice to enhance sustainable development in Uganda”. UCSD desires to become a source of alternative views, technical support and advice to a variety of stakeholders. Thus, it contribution towards sustainable development under its thematic focus areas will be demand driven and also in response to issues at hand. The Mission of the Coalition is to contribute to follow up of the Johannesburg Summit outcomes in Uganda and subsequent global declarations. UCSD core business, which is consistent with its Goal and Mission is: a) Carrying out advocacy and lobbying for sustainability considerations in development undertakings in Uganda. b) Generating and disseminating knowledge and information about sustainable development based on thematic areas of focus. c) Capacity building for UCSD members to be future cadres of the advocating for sustainability as part of development undertakings in Uganda. d) Promoting best practices in sustainability at the local level to inspire action from CSOs, communities, SMEs, local authorities in Uganda. e) Managing and sustaining the UCSD network. f) Advocacy and lobbying regionally and internationally through networks (e.g., INFORSE-EA, SW) by joint policy briefs, publications, databases, participation on regional and UN forums. g) Maintain news through facebook, e-newsletter/blogs.
