The Civil Society Fund (CSF) is an independent support modality financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Civil Society Fund support interventions made in partnerships between Danish civil society organizations, their partners and possibly other actors.
By supporting such actors, the CSF aims to increase citizen participation in governance and development processes. This helps give voice to marginalised groups and holds governments accountable, and address pressing social issues like poverty, inequality, discrimination, and lack of access to services. The CSF contributes to a robust and pluralistic civil society by supporting a wide range of formal and informal organisations, movements, and initiatives. This diversity is crucial for a well-functioning democracy.

High pressure leads to temporary adjustments
The Civil Society Fund is once again experiencing unusually high demand across its various types of support.
In the most recent application round for projects on June 11, the secretariat received a total of 103 applications across both Small and Large Projects, which by a wide margin exceeds the amount allocated for this round.
Similarly, a high number of applications is expected for Small Programmes in the upcoming application round on September 10, 2025, where 87 organisations have the opportunity to apply for approximately DKK 30 million available.
Therefore, the following temporary adjustments have been introduced:
- Small and Large Projects: Application- and response deadlines have been updated, as shown in the table below.
- Small Programmes: The procedures for handling the application round have been adjusted. This means that only applications amounting to up to twice the available funds will be forwarded for assessment. Initially, applications that meet the administrative requirements will be forwarded. If the total of these applications exceeds twice the available amount, then those with the lowest requested amounts will be prioritized for assessment.
