Cyclone Idai hit Chimanimani and Chipinge districts of Manicaland on the 15th of March 2019 after passing through Mozambique. Cyclone Idai has caused a devastating effect to both humans and livestock, destroying livelihoods for the people as well as damaged infrastructure such as roads, water and electricity supplies. An estimated 250.000 people were affected and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. The ongoing emergency response is coordinated by Department of Civil Protection assisted by national and international partners. UFF-Humana’s partner in Zimbabwe, DAPP, is already in the area and a member of the Civil Protection Committee and ready to assist. Based on assessments made, this intervention will target 1.000 vulnerable households in ward 15 in Chimanimani District and who are selected in cooperation with the Civil Protection Unit. The intervention will 1) enhance access to safe water and sanitary facilities for 4.000 people have access to safe water and sanitation facilities by rehabilitating 20 boreholes; constructing 150 pit latrines; distribute 800 bags of sanitary pads; distribute 1.000 buckets and 2.000 aqua tablets to prevent the spread of diseases. 2) contribute to emergency needs of food and non-food items, by distributing emergency food packs to 4.000 people.
