Resume

In Kampala, hundreds of thousands of bodaboda riders power the city’s economy yet face stigma, unsafe conditions and limited representation. This three-year programme by Danish People’s Aid and CIDI will transform riders and their associations into champions of health and safety action. Through first aid and road safety training, health and safety governance strengthening, economic risk mitigation and evidence-based advocacy, riders will reduce accidents, improve emergency response and build trust with passengers, communities and authorities. Partnerships with hospitals, police, city leaders, SafeBoda and the transport workers’ union ATGWU will support structured policy dialogue and practical safety reforms. By reframing riders from “reckless” to “responsible,” the programme will foster safer transport, greater dignity and a stronger collective voice on health and safety, laying the foundation for long-term, systemic change.
