Resume

The project addresses the urgent health and nutrition needs of Congolese refugees in Burundi, with a focus on people living with non-communicable diseases (NCDs), older persons, persons with disabilities, and malnourished old people, groups systematically neglected in emergency responses. Implemented in refugee-hosting districts in Burundi by BNCDA, in partnership with Ubuntu Village of Life and supported by DNCDA, the intervention aims to prevent avoidable morbidity and mortality caused by disrupted care for chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and chronic lung diseases, alongside undernutrition among older refugees. Through mobile health clinics, public NCD screening and awareness campaigns, provision of lifesaving NCD medicines and monitoring equipment, and distribution of healthy food kits, the project ensures continuity of care for 5,000 refugees living with NCDs and improves nutritional status among vulnerable older and disabled persons.
