Resume

Since mid-April 2018, drought has affected more than 3000 households in the remote rural villages of Faryab and they are currently staying in the Maimana city. The drought has resulted in heightened food insecurity and put the households in severe needs of urgent humanitarian assistance. As per the UN and DoRR’ findings, it has been concluded that displaced households are in dire need of protection, access to water supply and livelihood assistance. According to the UNFAO Feb 2018 that there is drought prolonged dry spell and losses and damages in agriculture and livestock already evident and it will have drastic consequences leading towards food insecurity, and severe malnutrition in the next seasons (next six to ten months). This will deepen vulnerabilities of the local people in saving life where one-third is already considered food insecure. The proposed project significantly contributes to respond to the urgent needs in WASH, Emergency/FSL and Protection sectors, prioritized by the DORR and UNOCHA led Joint cluster assessment. This project is already coordinated with DORR and UN clusters / Faryab Operational Coordination Team (OCT) to respond to the emergency needs of drought affected IDP HHs in 10 districts (small towns: Nahiya) of Maimana city. This project will therefore contribute to address the urgent needs of 1,657 officially registered IDP households (400 cash distribution/protection, 857 WASH and 400 FSL).
