Resume

This intervention aims at increasing the preparedness of two indigenous communities in Central Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo, for extreme El Niño and La Niña events, and to mitigate the impacts of peat swamp forest fires on environmental and human health. In close coordination with the health sector, relevant environmental agencies, and the educational system, this will be achieved through 1. Educational outreach activities of children and adults on the impacts of environmental degradation on human and environmental health and the link between the two, 2. Engagement of the communities in environmental restoration and forest protection to mitigate future impacts from climate change, and 3. Participatory assessments of the communities’ capacities and vulnerabilities, implementation of Early Warning – Early Action systems, and preparation of Local Strategic Preparedness and Response Plans with the aim to decrease the local health-related impacts of fires, haze, and floods.
