Umiddelbare mål
The project aims to mobilize and capacitate workers within the Ugandan floriculture industry to participate in organized labour. Through training and capacity building, the intervention will generate a fertile and inclusive environment which engages workers in decision making processes on issues affecting their own working conditions and health.
Målgrupper
Primary target group: existing members of UHISPAWU. (approximately 121 members) Secondary target group: non-union members (approximately 300 non-unions members) The flower pickers are dominated by young mothers between 22 and 35 years of age, many of them single.

The intervention's objective is to promote labor and health rights in the floriculture industry in Uganda. It aims to mobilize and capacitate workers within the Ugandan floriculture industry to participate in organized labor. Through training and capacity building, the intervention will generate a fertile and inclusive environment which engages workers in decision making processes on issues affecting their own working conditions and health. The intervention will be carried out over a period of 12 months. It employs an approach of mobilization, training and collective action. Solidarity Uganda staff will provide training in union bargaining power, strategic nonviolent action, public narrative and movement-building. The intervention has three major components to support the main objective of the intervention. The first component aims to increase union power within the floriculture industry in Uganda. The second component of the intervention will make advances in the rights of workers (health, wages, working conditions) by capacitating and educating the target group(s) in labor and health rights. The last overall component of the intervention is to strengthen solidarity with flower pickers in a global context by e.g. raise awareness about the flower industry to consumers - both individuals and companies.
