Kumasi Institute of Tropical Agriculture (KITA) was established in 1984 as a non-profit TVET institution to promote farmer skills training and human capacity development in agriculture, renewable energy, health and environment in Ghana. The mission of KITA is to stimulate employment opportunities and economic development in Ghana’s agricultural industry. KITA offers a variety of Pre-Tertiary, Tertiary (Accredited by National Accreditation Board run by the College), as well as Technical and Vocational Certificate courses to provide an environment for high-impact training, education, consultancy and research to generate the knowledge and skills required for sustainable environmental stewardship and human development in Ghana and beyond. Besides, KITA provides technical support to farmer groups in surrounding villages through its Rural Development and Community Extension centre. This is working in over 150 communities who receive constant technical support from facilitators and tutors. KITAs Services include farmer mobilization and skill training, Consultancy, Research, Sustainable Development, Marketing of Agro produce and equipment, Micro -finance. KITAs activities affect over 20,000 farmers and about 50 farmer groups and organizations. KITA is currently championing agro-ecology, biochar technology, solar irrigation technology, and digital imagery for agric development, drone technology etc. to bring new technologies to farmers. KITA is partnering with AGRA, EU, BMF, WUSC, ECOWAS, etc. in development projects in Ghana. KITA was one of teh founding members of GEN Ghana and hosts the GEN Ghana secretariat at its premises..
