Gender Stream is a feminist Ukrainian organization working for the benefit of LGBTIQ+ communities in Ukraine, collaborating with state and international actors to ensure non-discrimination, equal rights, and the rule of law. Our vision is a Ukraine where fundamental human rights are upheld, and LGBTIQ+ people enjoy equality in a democratic society free from discrimination. Founded in Dnipro in 2016, Gender Stream has been actively countering hate crimes, promoting tolerance, and raising awareness of LGBTIQ+ rights. Since the full-scale Russian invasion, our work has evolved to meet the urgent needs of the community. We provide evacuation support, humanitarian aid, and targeted assistance to vulnerable groups, including LBT women over 35 in Dnipro and surrounding regions. While humanitarian aid remains crucial, our primary focus is long-term systemic change through institutional work, advocacy, and legal reforms. We are a leading force in advocating for draft law 5488, which aims to combat hate crimes based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Our team provides legal assistance and psychological support to LGBTIQ+ people who have survived hate crimes and works closely with law enforcement to improve responses to such incidents. Additionally, Gender Stream plays a critical role in monitoring and preventing hate crimes through a dedicated platform that tracks incidents and engages with law enforcement to improve accountability. We actively contribute to analytical and shadow reports for EU bodies, ensuring that the human rights situation of LGBTIQ+ people in Ukraine is accurately represented at the international level. In the past year, Gender Stream has strengthened key partnerships with members of parliament, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police, and international organizations like the Council of Europe. As we continue our mission, we remain committed to ensuring the safety, visibility, and rights of LGBTIQ+ people in Ukraine.
